Breathe Project is a clearinghouse for information on air quality in Pittsburgh, southwestern Pennsylvania and beyond. We use the best available science and technology to better understand the quality of the air we breathe and provide opportunities for citizens to engage and take action.

FracTracker, the project, was originally developed to investigate health concerns and data gaps surrounding western PA fracking. Today, as a non-profit organization, FracTracker Alliance supports groups across the United States, addressing pressing extraction-related concerns with a lens toward health effects and exposure risks on communities from oil and gas development. We provide timely and provocative data, ground-breaking analyses, maps, and other visual tools to help advocates, researchers, and the concerned public better understand the harms posed by hydrocarbon extraction.

"This year marks 50 years since the Group Against Smog and Pollution started fighting for cleaner, healthier air in southwestern Pennsylvania.... In these past five decades we’ve worked tirelessly and accomplished a lot, including reviewing and commenting on hundreds of air quality permits, regulations, and policies, and educating tens of thousands of residents about air quality issues....We’ve fought for clean air in communities throughout Southwestern PA, writing countless letters to the editor, speaking at public hearings, and serving on numerous regional committees and boards advocating for improved air quality.

For nearly 100 years, the Izaak Walton League has fought for clean air and water, healthy fish and wildlife habitat, and conserving special places for future generations. North Braddock Residents for Our Future is a grassroots group of residents organized to promote community health and clean air, and fight unconventional gas drilling in our community.

The mission of Promote PT is to promote a more sustainable, communal future. We hope to accomplish this through community-focused projects where residents can learn about sustainable living, health and safety, and more. We believe that sustainable, healthy living should be accessible and affordable for everyone and strive to connect community members with new and innovative ways to use sustainable energy, reduce plastic dependence, connect with nature, protect their health and safety and more.

Protect Penn-Trafford is a citizen's group working to ensure the safety, security, and quality of life from the effects of unconventional gas development in Penn-Trafford and surrounding communities in Westmoreland and Allegheny Counties.
